Dr Rebecca

Clinical Psychologist

Difficult experiences are part of being human and we all face times when things can feel overwhelming or hard.

Therapy can help you to:

  • Understand yourself and your difficulties in new ways;

  • Develop more effective ways of relating to painful thoughts, feelings and situations, and;

  • Clarify what is truly important to you so you can build a more meaningful life.

I offer a non-judgmental, holistic approach to psychological therapy that is tailored to your individual needs and goals.

About me

I am a registered Clinical Psychologist who is passionate about working collaboratively with people to make meaningful change in their lives.

In addition to my private work, I work for the Auckland District Health Board providing psychological assessment and therapy for adolescents and adults.

As well as being registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board (Clinical Scope), I am an associate member of The New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists and a member of the Association of Contextual and Behavioral Science.

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

What to expect

The focus of our first session will be on giving you space to describe the challenges that have brought you to therapy. By the end of this session we will hopefully have some shared understanding of these challenges and how you would like things to be different. This first session also offers you a chance to get to know me, and to see whether I am someone you might like to work with. In the first 1 - 2 sessions I will make suggestions about how we might approach your specific challenges and the time frame this may take. For some people, 4 - 6 sessions can be sufficient, while for others 16 or even longer may be indicated. This will be discussed and agreed upon together, taking into account the difficulties you are facing, your goals and preferences.

Our work together may include:

  • Identifying and shifting patterns of behaving and thinking that are contributing to the problem or keeping you stuck

  • Developing new skills to cope with overwhelming emotions and unhelpful thoughts

  • Learning how to relate to yourself and others differently

  • Developing new problem solving skills

There will be times when I will ask you to practice or reflect on things in between sessions, so I can more effectively help you make changes outside of the therapy room.

I am located in Whangarei, Northland. My fee for a standard 55 minute session is $140 and $200 for a longer 85 minute session. A 50% fee occurs if cancellation is made less than 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment.
